Valentine’s Day – A Day For Lovers Or Merchants?
Mohsen is a lover. Mark is a merchant. The lover and merchant have something in common: they’re both in love. The difference: one is in love with a person; the other is in love with money.
.
Mohsen’s story:-
Mohsen woke up early in the 14th of February, happy and very energetic, like an elementary school student on a holiday morning. Mohsen had his breakfast, put his heart-shaped lollipop in his mouth and went to look for a gift for his beloved Someone. Mohsen noticed the following:-
.
The exact same teddy bear he saw in July in this exact same store was sold for quarter the price it is sold at now. Mohsen had a plan. He bought the same presents he got for his love last July, wrapped them in hearts and red wraps, and gave them to her when he was back at the night. Mohsen wrote down in his diary the difference in reactions in both cases from his love:-
.
“Test Subject 1: Teddy Bear:-
July Beloved Someone: Wo..w.. A teddy bear… thank … you…I guess. (Whispers to herself: He thinks I’m 7 or something? Can’t he see that I’m too old for stuffed animals!?)
VD Beloved Someone: WOW!!! This is AMAZING! It feels so smooth and… Valentiney!
.
Test Subject 2: Chocolate:-
July Beloved Someone: How thoughtful! About time we feed the dog.
VD Beloved Someone: THANK YOU!!! This is the most delicious ten-times-its-original-price-chocolate I’ve ever tasted in my life!
.
Test Subject 3: Clothes:-
In both cases: *Smiles and nods politely, asks for the receipt, takes it along with the clothes and runs back to the store.* Rule: Never pick up clothes for women.
.
Test Subject 4: Jewelry:-
In both cases: Oh my God… I LOVE YOU!!!
Congratulations, I’m loved. Well done, I’m homeless.”
.
Mark’s story:-
Mark woke up early in the 14th of February, the happiest and the most energetic, like any other gift shop owner on this day. He had looked at his calendar last night and couldn’t help himself but to grin wickedly when he looked at the red note he wrote on the 14th of February: “Happy Commercial Day!”. He hugged and kissed his wife like he does every day. He went to work and asked for the day’s sales statistics. He laughed like an evil, mad scientist who just resurrected the dead as he looked at the insanely sold products. At the end of his business day – and like he’s used to doing everyday– he went back home with a rose in his hand. He kissed his wife, gave her the daily rose, and told her that he loves her. His wife was happy like she always was; she knew that they don’t need an annual day to celebrate their love when they can express their love everyday at any time and make each day and every moment special.
.
Moral of the story (P.S): Happy Valentine’s Day, Merchants!

Valentine’s day has indeed become a commercial day. It has nothing to do with love because love does not have a schedule or a time table. February 14th is a reminder to couples that they HAVE to love each other, and love is not something that can be forced. It is felt and should be shown on a daily basis just like what we see between Mark and his wife.
A couple can be married for years and if the man forgets to even acknowledge the day, he’s gonna be in trouble and end up sleeping on the couch! There are 365 days in a year, what makes this day more special than an anniversary? Even a birthday has more meaning to the couple than Valentines day; at least its personal and holds sentimental value – It is the day your loved one entered the world, what is more precious than that?

haha.. it is true … people are weird.. they wait for fictitious “holiday” .. to tell each other that they love each other (that sounded funny) .. while they may not even mean it.. it’s just for showing off.. or other crap.. sad sad people

It’s Fool’s Day. OMG seriously how can those people repeat the sentence (I Love You) over and over only this day(VD) without meaning it, then the next morning they delete it from their bubble heads. If I loved someone really I can’t say this sentence to him/her I’ll show him/her with actions.About the Merchants day you are absolutly right, they wait every chance to suck up money from pockets(including credit cards), I can not believe the nonsense I have been reading in newspapers these days about VD.

This is true for many couples, but at the same time there are still those who do it correctly; they express their love throughout the year as well as on Valentine’s Day, except in a more unique (or not so unique) way. It’s mostly a matter of genuine love, in my opinion.
Besides, many girls would prefer sentimental gifts that don’t require money, such as taking her stargazing or a place she’s always wanted to go.
Damn media…
